ORBIT: The Science of Rapport Based Interviewing (24 June 2026)

ORBIT: The Science of Rapport Based Interviewing

This presentation provides an introduction and overview of ORBIT, an empirically grounded and comprehensive rapport-based model for communicating in difficult contexts. ORBIT is derived from the analysis of the largest international corpus of real-world interviews, including those with convicted terrorism suspects, child sexual offenders, and victims of sexual assault, now comprising more than 2,000 hours of data. The model integrates over 75 years of research on humanistic therapeutic approaches, alongside theories of personality and interpersonal interaction, to form a theoretically rich framework for rapport-based communication. As an internationally recognised model, ORBIT is widely used by law enforcement, military, security, and internal investigation teams across the globe.
