About Us

The CPIO is a non-profit organization, which serves to ensure that the professional investigation sector in Ontario is comprised of investigative experts who are professional, trustworthy and effective. Whether you are in need of a due diligence background inquiry, an insurance fraud investigation or even a major and complex corporate internal fraud investigation, our membership are able to provide the expertise and professionalism required to meet your needs.

Additionally, the CPIO is uniquely positioned to represent investigators and set the standard by strategically creating training, networking and legislative platforms all designed to provide the public with the most professional investigative services possible in the marketplace.

All members of the CPIO must be licensed by the Province of Ontario, insured and adhere to the Code of Ethics and Privacy Policy of the Council. Moreover, they must always conduct themselves in the best interests of the public.

Activities of the Council

  • Represent private investigators in Ontario;
  • Consult and advocate to federal and provincial regulators regarding proactive legislative change;
  • Review and administer professional designations in accordance with the Professional Designation Protocols
  • Conduct professional development webinars and courses designed to increase expertise;
  • Promote our members to those who require the services of a licensed private investigation agency;
  • Maintenance of www.cpiontario.ca designed to keep the industry informed regarding sector developments;
