Enhancing Resilience – Understanding Stress, Eustress, Trauma, and Mental Health for Professional Investigators

Presented by Eric N. Poirier

Eric is dedicated to guiding individuals through the profound journey of transforming trauma into a pathway for post-traumatic growth and enhanced well-being. With a deep and nuanced understanding of both individual and collective trauma, Eric recognizes the far-reaching effects of challenging experiences, including human trafficking, global and domestic terrorism, gang activity and violence, natural and non-natural disasters, pandemics, and various states of emergency requiring humanitarian responses. His insights are informed by extensive professional development education, real-world observations, and practical experience in incident response and investigations.

Join us for a one-hour presentation designed specifically for members of the Council of Professional Investigators of Ontario (CPIO), focusing on the psychological resilience needed in the demanding field of investigations. This engaging session will explore key concepts such as stress, eustress (positive stress), and trauma—helping attendees recognize how each impacts performance, well-being, and long-term mental health. Participants will gain practical tools to identify and manage chronic and vicarious stress, build resilience, and enhance overall wellness. The session will cover evidence-based strategies including mindfulness and stress-reduction techniques, the link between physical fitness and mental fortitude, proactive self-care, and the importance of peer support networks. Delivered in collaboration with Train 4 Trauma Combative Sciences (T4TCS), this presentation offers actionable insights to help investigators thrive under pressure and sustain effectiveness throughout their careers
