NICK IBBOTT

Nick Ibbott is a retired police detective with over 35 years of investigative experience, specializing in solving complex investigations, digital evidence collection, and investigative techniques. Holding a Master of Science in Forensic Computing and Cybercrime Investigation, Nick previously served as the Lead Search Warrant Coordinator at the Ontario Police College and is currently an adjunct professor at Seneca Polytechnic, where he teaches online investigations and investigative techniques, while also delivering specialized training to law enforcement and regulatory professionals across Canada.

As the founder of L.E.A.D. Solutions Inc. (LEADS) and developer of LEADS Capture Pro, Nick will share practical approaches to collecting, preserving, and documenting electronic evidence, emphasizing three fundamental questions that strengthen investigative reporting: What do you know, how do you know it, and why does it matter?

GARY TSE

Gary Tse is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) with professional experience in fraud risk management, investigations, cybersecurity, and governance. He serves as President of the ACFE Atlantic Chapter, is a member of the CFE Exam Content Development Committee, and contributes to Canada’s participation in ISO/TC 309, the ISO committee on fraud control standards. He also serves on multiple public boards, providing his compliance and governance expertise. Throughout the last two decades, Gary has worked on complex business, regulatory, audit, and investigative challenges, combining technology, analytics, governance, and practical execution to address issues across fraud risk management, investigations, compliance, controls, and assurance. More recently, he has focused on practical and evidence-based approaches to strengthening organizational fraud risk management and has worked with colleagues to develop a free fraud risk management maturity assessment model as a contribution to the anti-fraud community.

This session will explore the connection between fraud risk management, investigations, governance, controls, and organizational learning. The presenter will also introduce a free and publicly available Fraud Risk Management Maturity Assessment Tool and demonstrate how organizations can use a structured maturity assessment to identify strengths, uncover gaps, and prioritize opportunities for improvement.

EDWARD NAGEL

Edward Nagel is a seasoned forensic accountant with close to three decades of experience in fraud examination and forensic accounting. Since 1998, he has specialized exclusively in uncovering, analyzing, and preventing corporate fraud and financial misconduct for corporations, public sector entities, not-for-profit organizations, and their legal counsel. He has been recognized as an expert witness in forensic accounting and funds tracing by the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Edward has led hundreds of investigations, including involving asset misappropriation, fictitious vendors, payroll manipulation, revenue skimming, and financial statement fraud and frequently assists counsel with litigation support, expert critiques, and complex funds tracing. He also advises organizations on fraud risk management and designs anti-fraud control frameworks. In addition to his investigative practice, Edward develops and delivers customized fraud awareness and prevention programs, and has lectured extensively to law enforcement, government bodies, law firms, and professional associations on fraud detection and forensic accounting. His insights are frequently featured in industry publications, conferences, and media interviews addressing emerging fraud risks and best practices.

Explore how fraud happens, how to recognize the warning signs, and how investigations uncover the truth. This webinar examines the definition and elements of fraud, common fraudster characteristics, and schemes involving payroll, purchasing, expense claims, and financial reporting. Through selected case studies, participants will learn about red flags, investigative approaches, and the evolving role of technology—from tools used by fraudsters to computer forensics and forensic accounting techniques. The session also covers practical strategies for fraud prevention and detection.
