The Board of Directors has been strongly advocating on behalf of private investigators in pushing for the return of a tangible, carryable license card that reflects the professionalism and credibility of our industry. We're proud to share that this advocacy has paid off, and we have an exciting update to pass along.

Effective July 20, 2026, all new and renewed private investigator licenses will be issued in a redesigned digital license format, along with a new wallet-sized printable version.

As always, license holders must carry either a digital version or a printed copy of their license and be prepared to present it upon request.

This update is the direct result of persistent advocacy by the CPIO Board of Directors, and one we believe reflects the priorities of our membership.
